It’s hard to imagine coaching before the web! Yes… coaching existed before web-based services, but it is unlikely that the profession would have grown so quickly without internet tools. Most coaches are aware of the benefits of having a website, if only to create an electronic brochure of their services. But savvy coaches are learning how to use internet tools to promote their services, keep in touch with clients and prospects, and to actually do coaching. This list is just a beginning… I’d love to hear from you on e-tools you use to promote your coaching practice.

I can only think of two things that are not negotiable and they are death and taxes. Other than that everything else is up for grabs. The fact that everything is negotiable doesn’t mean you will get everything just the way you want it. What it does mean is you can at least ask for what you want.
My husband had an unfortunate car accident. He was waiting his turn to make a left-hand turn, and a woman in the van in front of him decided to back up. She didn’t notice my husband behind her. Her foot slipped and she stomped on the accelerator. The van smashed into our car. The good news is my husband is fine. The bad news is the car is totaled.

Faith is the most needed trait when obtaining what you want out of life. It is known that when you tell yourself something over and over, and if you hear something over and over, you will eventually believe it. That is exactly what we must do in our lives to attain what we want.
A metaphor was used in “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” by Taylor who said, “Masterfully designed to move you through space and time, your body is a physical vessel. But no vessel goes anywhere undirected. There has to be someone on board who directs the travels and judges that journey’s process. That someone is your thinking mind.”

As business owners, we all know that the key to fantastic sales is to let your customers have a personal experience of you. The difficulty, of course is that to give every customer that experience personally requires a tremendous time commitment of ourselves and our staff. So what do we do?
One solution is to leverage our time by doing the “wooing” once and then let that effort live on forever in a virtual format. It is about creating multiple products, programs, or streams of income from the core of our business that can sell and propagate without our direct intervention!

Because of our unique life’s experiences everyone has certain prejudices and biases, both good and bad, that we content with. The question is not whether a great leader-coach has prejudices and biases, but how they manage their biases. These biases can pose an enormous obstacle for a leader-coach when they are asked to coach someone who for whatever reason fits into a category that the particular coach has a potential negative bias against. As the workforce has become more diverse, and as companies become more international in nature, leaders may be more challenged in handling diversity related issues effectively. More and more leaders will be needed to coach those who have backgrounds and experiences drastically different from their own. When coaching those of different cultural backgrounds coaches may be totally unaware of the emotional reactions that may occur subconsciously because of the cultural differences and the “different visions of life” that result from those different cultural experiences (Goldsmith & Lyons 2006, p. 133). The potential downside of not being able to recognize and deal with resulting biases can have huge negative consequences to organizations.

How DO we get a handle on all of this? What’s the secret to keeping your life streamlined and organized? The bottom line of successful time management is successful self management.

On Saturday, September 1, 2007, a major event occurred for the first time in college football history that sent ripples throughout college football. The event that took place was a football game between NCAA Division 1 powerhouse Michigan and Division 1AA Champion Appalachian State.
According to the experts, this game had the making of a classic “David vs. Goliath” Story in which David had NO CHANCE of winning and the game was viewed as a joke that wasn’t supposed to be taken seriously. Michigan was considered a contender for the 2007 National Championship and ranked #5 in the nation. Appalachian State was last year’s D-1AA Champion, not ranked in the same polls
as Michigan and considered completely out of their league when compared next to Michigan.

Most of the time, when people hire a coach, they don’t have a clear, concise statement of what they need. That’s one of the reasons to hire a coach — to get clearer about what’s up for you, what your life is requiring of you now, and what you actually need to DO.
