Some people take the time to watch television. Others take the time to tell their vision. I try to do both. There are some brilliant magicians performing on TV these days. And their magic reminds me of how I got started in learning about the art of persuasion.

When I was in naturopathic medical school, a friend and I had the opportunity to work with a mentor who was exploring what was then a new frontier of mind/body medicine. Because the impact of what he taught us had such a profound effect on our clinical practice, we felt a responsibility to share what we had learned with our fellow students.

I can only think of two things that are not negotiable and they are death and taxes. Other than that everything else is up for grabs. The fact that everything is negotiable doesn’t mean you will get everything just the way you want it. What it does mean is you can at least ask for what you want.

My husband had an unfortunate car accident. He was waiting his turn to make a left-hand turn, and a woman in the van in front of him decided to back up. She didn’t notice my husband behind her. Her foot slipped and she stomped on the accelerator. The van smashed into our car. The good news is my husband is fine. The bad news is the car is totaled.

I’ve had the privilege to present “effective Time Management” to several organizations including Bank One. The topic is always well received and elicits spirited conversation about the “how-to” to manage information overload. Let’s face it we are literally assaulted with constant bombardment of information via television, radio, books, magazines, newspapers, and our daily interactions with others. Help! How DO we get a handle on all of this? What’s the secret to keeping your life streamlined and organized? The bottom line of successful time management is successful self management.

“Like…what’s that on your face?” the young girl blurted out to another young girl in the mall. Being less than ten feet away, I couldn’t help but see the zit was bigger than the nose on a clown in the Fourth of July parade. Could she have been more rude? I don’t think so. How could she say that in front of the girls friends and several strangers?

We see poor manners everywhere…the mall, theatre, restaurants, airports…anywhere people gather. A very good friend, Sybil Atwood, recently shared her concern with what she phrased, “the end of civility” in our society. Once again, Sybil has inspired me to dig a little deeper.

Isn’t mass media great? Whether it is the TV, Radio or an Internet Q & A session, there is always something going on at the Online Think Tank. Today one of the visionaries from the Online Think Tank was interviewed and asked many questions about the happenings at the Think Tank and their opinion on the whole thing.

About midway into the question and answer period the visionary stated that he was into winning, solving problems and thinking and was not into committee work, blame games or who inevitably will receive the credit for the challenges that are solved and the Q & A turned into a rather lively talk indeed:

I love plastic surgery shows. I love to see the before and after. I love to judge if the surgery actually made the person better in whatever sense they presented for the surgery. And this is what I notice more often than not. The surgery appears to empower the person. Admittedly, I do not know or need to know how long the empowerment lasts, but going through the procedure appears to provide a measure of personal satisfaction.

Listen…listen…your soul is speaking. Some refer to it as your heartbeat. To others, it’s an unshakable knowing that comes from deep within. If you want something that sounds more intellectual –it’s the reverberation of unrequited passion pulsating through every nerve and synapse of your being that challenges your current state and motivates you toward something bigger. Now that’s a mouthful.

It amazes me that even in a country that heralds Christianity as its predominant belief, a significant number of men and women admit that they are discontent with their jobs and dissatisfied with their lives. They just ain’t happy. They celebrate salvation of the soul but turn a deaf ear to the soul when it speaks.

“Evolution, Progress, Prosperity… it’s all about braking limitations. Breaking the patterns is the starting point”

When everybody agrees upon everything, than something is definitely wrong. Every new, great idea, when emerges for the first time is in minority. Jesus, Buddha, Muhammad and the “others”, had spoken something that nobody else did. Those men were “pattern breakers”. They had recognized the rottenness of the current situation and started to alter the people’s usual way of thinking. Then, the change of the acting followed, be cause when one sees the thing from different stand point and notices the difference, the old goes where it belongs – to the past, and it’s replaced by the “fresh”. Only then the progress is possible.
