According to the results of a poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation, the majority of American adults (63%) do not get the recommended eight hours of sleep needed for good health, safety, and optimum performance. Almost one-third of those polled report sleeping less than seven hours each week night, with many saying they try to “catch – up” on their sleep on weekends. This approach simply doesn’t work. I can only think of two things that are not negotiable and they are death and taxes. Other than that everything else is up for grabs. The fact that everything is negotiable doesn’t mean you will get everything just the way you want it. What it does mean is you can at least ask for what you want.

My husband had an unfortunate car accident. He was waiting his turn to make a left-hand turn, and a woman in the van in front of him decided to back up. She didn’t notice my husband behind her. Her foot slipped and she stomped on the accelerator. The van smashed into our car. The good news is my husband is fine. The bad news is the car is totaled.

-I don’t particularly enjoy going to the doctor, and I’m terrified by the sight of my own blood, but I’ve always been fascinated by the lives of my friends who practice medicine. (Side note: weird how it’s called “practicing” medicine – as if it’s akin to working on your jump shot.) My doctor friends seem to genuinely enjoy when I pepper them with annoying medical questions – and they usually know all the answers. Ever ask one of your lawyer friends a legal question? They not-so-subtly sigh, roll their eyes, then plead ignorance because it’s outside the scope of their firm’s practice (again with the practicing).

Have you ever noticed how people who are the same age as you look a lot older than you? Or at least they look a lot older than you see yourself. I can’t count the number of times I have met someone and been blown away that they were the same age as me. They looked so old. They actually look like an adult. Surely I don’t look like that. That is the issue right there. Our image of ourselves usually gets frozen at some age between 18 and 25. I still remember a mentor of mine in college telling me he always thought of himself as if he were still 18. Since he was near 40 at the time, I remember I just thought he was seriously delusional. The truth is that we know we are an adult, but for some reason we just don’t feel like we should be that old. That is till we see the wrong unflattering picture of us or catch the wrong view of our naked body in the mirror. Then the truth hits home hard.

Ordinarily, when we think of “success,” we envision a solid level of achievement that occurs over an extended period of time. Never does it occur to us that success can occur instantaneously, and even infinitely — contradicting our ordinary notions of what is logical and possible.

Such instantaneous vast results can occur when we shift our consciousness to the positive. Words are a manifesting power that is one level closer to manifesting in form than is the power of thought. A next level that is even closer to form is the manifesting power of deed or action. A ‘closer level’ does not mean it has more power, but rather, it is another step of the process of making manifest our intentions. Intention is expressed first in emotion, and then in thought, followed by word, and lastly in deed, which is the step that completes or ‘receives’ the manifestation.
